2008 Boxing Day Swim and Party
December 26th & 27th

Some very brave souls turned out for the Boxing Day annual swim. Yes a dry day but a bitterly cold easterly wind had whipped up a few waves to make the sea look even daunting. The first picture shows some of our intrepid members just before they plunged in but one or two more joined in also. The Clubhouse was open for the morning and lots of members called in to sample mince pies and Ray’s soup.

Our retiring social Secretary, Tony Dunn, organised a Christmas party which was held on Saturday night 27th, and what a bitterly cold night it was. You could here the waves crashing on the beach as we ventured in with the cold easterly wind, showing us the first real tastes of winter. The temperature was just at freezing point and the wind chill factor made it feel much colder. Quite surprisingly there was a very good attendance with over 40 members and friends. Everybody brought a plate of food which was pooled together for a buffet meal.

The night started off with a Lionel Rigby Christmas quiz. This was very closely contested, with the winning team, comprising Gary & Kay, with Chris & Sue Hazell, just pipping the Cobbett’s team by 1 point. Gary’s team scoring 36 out of a possible 40 points.

The buffet was then served and we were then entertained by Dave Cobbett, complete with guitar, singing for us. Graham Pomelroy helped along on the harmonica. A good old game of pass the parcel followed on, which went down extremely well. The party proved to be a very popular event and was enjoyed by all. It was great to see so many happy faces and realxed persons, yes a fantastic evening. Thank you Tony & Lyn
